The Thomas S. Monson Center offers a stunning backdrop for photographs and videos. While we strive to accommodate individuals and groups wishing to capture images, these activities must not disrupt daily operations, event rentals, or building safety. If applicable, a signed agreement and any fees must be submitted before the session begins.
Professional Photography
Professional photography, including graduation, wedding, engagement, and family sessions, is permitted at the Monson Center. Indoor photography requires a $100 fee during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) and $200 per hour for after-hours sessions. Outdoor photography is free of charge.
Photography is not allowed during private events, and any photographer arriving without prior approval during such an event will be asked to leave immediately. To avoid scheduling conflicts, we require all photographers to call (801) 213-8770 in advance to confirm availability. If no private events are scheduled, professional photography outside the Monson Center is permitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Commercial Photography
Commercial photography defined as any photography that may be published, sold, promoted, reproduced, or otherwise commercially used. This type of photography must be approved in advance through the University of Utah Scheduling Office at (801) 581-7854. Upon approval of request, photographers may contact the Alumni House to schedule an appointment in order to avoid conflicts with other scheduled events.
Photography inside the Monson Center will be assessed a $100 fee per hour for use of the space during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). The fee for after-hours photography is $200 per hour. To avoid conflicts with other events, the session must be scheduled in advance.
The following rules and regulations pertain to any photography at the Monson:
- Be courteous and considerate to other Monson Center visitors and employees. All signs and barriers posted on the property must be adhered to.
- Stay out of flowerbeds, plant displays, or mulched areas. Do not step between or on plants.
- The 2nd and 3rd floor balconies may only be used during a scheduled indoor appointment.
- Flowers, foliage, and decor may not be removed or rearranged for any purpose.
- Accessibility of entrances, exits, doorways, pathways, and staircases must not be blocked.
- Existing furniture within the Monson Center may not be moved. Any tables, chairs, or other equipment set up for private events may not be moved.
- For indoor photography, restrooms are available for changing. Do not leave your belongings unattended in the restrooms or elsewhere on the property.
- The Monson Center assumes no liability for loss, theft, or damage to belongings or equipment.
- Use of unmanned aircraft systems requires prior approval from the University of Utah. Please visit aux.utah.edu/drones for more information.
- Glitter, sequins, feathers, etc., are not allowed at the Monson Center. Please ensure that all wardrobes comply with this policy and that clients/models are fully and appropriately clothed.

Flames (candles, sparklers, etc.) are not allowed anywhere on the grounds or in the building.
- The Thomas S. Monson Center is granted full rights to use any images (photography and/or video filming) taken by Monson Staff and/or Client or any reproductions or adaptions of the images for fundraising, publicity or other purposes to help achieve our department goals. This may include (but not limited to) the right to use them in printed and digital publicity, social media, press releases, and funding applications.
- Guests will pay for any damages to the property as a result of the photography session.
